First Baptist Church Kitchen Coordinator

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Kitchen Coordinator will work with volunteers to solicit, pick-up, and process food donations; coordinate with Lunch Program Teams to suggest menus based on food in the freezers; ensure kitchen is cleaned by teams and that the only food left behind has a designated use; maintain all current food certifications; solicit, train, and maintain a cadre of volunteers; maintain connections with other church meals programs in Beverly; serve as liaison to greater community for those who would like to volunteer. Connect with Monday Night Supper leaders.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Volunteers with the meals program
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT Part-time, 5-10 hours per week, although there will be fluctuations week to week,such as when donated food arrives that needs to be processed.
COMPENSATION:
- Salary: $200 per week.
- Benefits: As listed in the Personnel Policies for part-time position.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
The coordinator is encouraged to think beyond what is already being done to be able to create systems to streamline current efforts and increase efficiency of the entire process, from the point of food collection to food distribution.
- Incoming Food Collection
- Seek and maintain connections and communicate with grocery stores, restaurants, farms, and Green Beverly and other organizations for food reclamation opportunities
- Secure pick-up for food donations
- Shop for needed groceries, including occasional trips to BJ’s and Restaurant Depot (kitchen supply store)
Process Incoming Food
- Put away and organize all groceries and donations
- Keep and manage inventory and storage of all food and necessary disposables (like to-go meal containers), including food in freezers and refrigerators
- Create and offer meal plan options using donated food
Meal Preparation
- Create and maintain an inventory of meal options, including recipes, that participants enjoy
- Communicate with Lunch Program cooks about current food inventory for suggested meals
- Ensure that the volunteers have all that they need to cook/serve/clean-up
Kitchen Clean-Up
- Ensure all cooked/served food is donated, taken home, or composted; no unmarked or unusable leftovers in the fridge or freezers
- Ensure that the kitchen is clean and set-up for the next usage
- Create and maintain a clean-up checklist for all volunteers to access
- Perform monthly refrigerator clean out removing old/expired food, wiping down the shelves
- Maintain all current food service certifications
Volunteers
- Create volunteer training and offer opportunities for new volunteers (including appliance usage, composting/recycling/trash requirements, location of various food stuffs, tools, utensils, items needed to cook/serve, set-up and clean-up operations).
- Maintain current volunteer list for the Lunch Program and leadership list for Monday Night Suppers
- Maintains clear, regular communication with Ministers, Lunch Program Team Leaders, Harborlight Nursery School employees, and other volunteers (both Lunch Program and Monday Night Supper crews as well as Sunday Morning Café folks) to create continuity and transparency for all involved with making and serving food through the kitchen.
- Lead and organize volunteers; when necessary, call and run meetings, send email/text communications, make phone calls, and help to secure volunteer coverage
Community Impact and Outreach
- Maintain connections with other churches and organizations that serve Monday Night Suppers
- Seek and maintain connections with other food program leaders within the Beverly community and other local municipalities
- Seek and maintain connections with local organizations who are helping to meet the needs of the population the meal program serves
- Seek and engage food recipients or community members as volunteers, including teens
- Serve as liaison with the greater Beverly community (including schools, organizations, individuals, groups, etc.) to offer volunteer opportunities within the meals program
